Jen and Kira flee to the "Houses of the Old Ones" and there they discover the Wall of Destiny. However, the Skeksis Chamberlain SkekSil stops the creatures from attacking the two Gelfing and Fizzgig, giving the three chance of fleeing. Later, Kira shelters Jen in her Podling village after several Garthim chased after them, but the village is raided and destroyed again by the Garthim. Jen sets out, where he meets Kira, a fellow Gelfling survivor who had spent her life among the woodland creatures and animals of the Podlings. Jen lived most of his life in the Valley of the Mystics, whose master assigns him the task of completing his dying wish to have the missing piece of the Dark Crystal restored, ending the evil rule of the Skeksis. Jen is a member of the Gelfing race, thought he is the only known survivor of the Garthim massacre. After the Garthim raid the Podling village and capture many Podlings, Jen comes to think that it's all because of him and throws the shard of the Crystal in anger, but after he and Kira find it in the next morning and the prophecy on the ancient Gelfling ruins' wall, he finally embraces his role as the Chosen One. Jen also often speaks in his thoughts, shown from the moment he leaves the Valley to meeting Aughra. Because of his inability to fight, most of his journey needs the help of Kira to succeed. After his master's death and he left the Valley for his quest to restore the Crystal, he still keeps happy memories of being raised by them and feels that he is not the hero his master thought he was. He is often shown to carry with him a small double-pronged flute called a Firca, which he plays.īecause he was raised by the Mystics, Jen is very pacifistic and doesn't know how to fight. His skin has a slight brown complexion and his hair is dark with fair (almost silver) streaks, which grows to shoulder-length. ģ0 trine later, the Spitter became one of the templates used in the creation of the Garthim.Jen wears a pale, cream-colored tunic with UrRu designs. ĭuring Arathim Wars, Poison Spitters had apparently been exterminated by skekVar's forces, though some had survived shortly before the First Battle of Stone-in-the-Wood, prompting skekVar to see to them personally. A bite from such a specimen was toxic enough to kill a Landstrider in minutes, and its carapace was impenetrable to all bladed weapons save for the Dual Glaive. Ī particularly large horde of Spitters could merge together to form an enlarged version of themselves. This silk could be dried into a powder, which the Gelfling used during the Arathim Wars as a battleground stimulant which could hide the wearer's scent. Poison Spitters regurgitated a caustic venom which could cause blindness, while Silk Spitters produced unbreakable ropy silk which could be used in combat to immobilize enemies. They sported six limbs which could be used for stabbing and rending and came in two forms: Poison Spitters and Silk Spitters. They were one of the largest of the innumerable Arathim subspecies and had no limit to the sizes they could attain. They lived in the Caves of Grot and, then, in the Catacombs of the Castle of the Crystal. Spitters were the main fighting force of the Arathim Ascendancy. Catacombs of the Castle of the Crystal.
